slow cook
'slow cook' started as an experiment to determine how two curators and
makers can work together in a way that resists speed and pressures to
produce a static, final form. We are joined by our shared
interest in archives as sites for communal gathering and belief in the
importance of relationship building in creating meaningful experiences with
art.
Our most recent separate projects explored New York City residents’
relationship to the New York Estuary and the politics of friendship in
collaborative art practices. While we put on exhibitions in two different
spaces (Pfizer building and CP Project Space), one manifestation of our
collaborative work resulted in a program “Walking with the estuary”, a
facilitated walk including a short poetry reading by each of us as a
speculative exercise to determine whether our respective exhibitions could
become friends.
We cook slowly, and slowly cook in these ways to
practice ways of being together.

sophia and i wondered if our curatorial projects “not too hot", not too cold” and “when the concrete meets. the sea” could be friends. The projects explored the related concepts of friendship and kinship and we thought they might get along.
‘slow cook’ facilitated a walk with the new york estuary, in doing so created a space where knowledge between the group and the landscape could be exchanged in joy.
we walked along the east river at brooklyn bridge park and shared poetry and prose.
